North Devon in Pictures

The Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon opens a fresh, new photographic exhibition on Saturday 23 November to show off the best entries to the NORTH DEVON IN PHOTOGRAPHS competition. (Doors open 10am, official launch and photographer awards at 2pm.)

The Heart of Exmoor scheme  has a special category in the North Devon Heritage Photographic Competition – our theme is ‘The Colours of Exmoor’! Faye Balmond and Rob Wilson-North judged the pictures (over 50 in our category alone) and on Saturday our scheme manager, Jason Ball, will give awards to our favourites.

300_preview-museum-nov2013“This year’s photo exhibition looks fantastically varied, even within each category, and the skill level is excellent,” said Jason, who previewed the displays, “but in judging our ‘colours of Exmoor’ category we’ve gone for mood and spirit over technical perfection.”

Who are the winners? We don’t know – the judging is done by looking over all the prints, and we never see the name of the photographer, until the exhibition opens at the museum.

Exhibition open 23 Nov 2013 to 11 Jan 2014. Details here.

The Heart of Exmoor projects are based in Exmoor National Park, and focus on the moorland landscape’s natural and cultural heritage. To appreciate moorland you really need to get out there and experience it (and take your camera!?) so look out for moorland events, or ask us about volunteering on moorland projects.  Read more about EMLP’s Heart of Exmoor programmes at www.heartofexmoor.org.uk
