NEWS FROM EXMOOR NATIONAL PARK AUTHORITY
Mosaic youth project launched on Exmoor
The recent Haddon Hill Big Adventure Day on Exmoor proved the perfect place to launch the Campaign for National Parks (CNP) Mosaic Youth Project. The Big Lottery funded project works in partnership with five National Parks and is being rolled out at a series of events across the country. These events will showcase different opportunities for young people to get involved with Mosaic and their National Parks; such as having fun in the outdoors through conservation activities, work experience and training.
Exmoor youth project officer Barney Simmons says: “It’s a rewarding challenge recruiting Young Champions who will learn about National Parks and promote them to their friends and communities. Young people will also get the chance to advise National Park Authorities on products and services. So if you want to get involved – get in touch.
“At the Big Adventure Day the Young Champions constructed dormouse boxes and provided a face painting service. They also took the opportunity to chat about the project to Nick Holliday, Deputy Chairman of Exmoor National Park Authority and a CNP trustee”
One of the Young Champions added, “Even though it sounds boring, it’s not boring; it’s a lot of fun. Today I liked making the pencils and doing dry stone walling. In the future I am hoping to develop my photography skills through the Mosaic project.”
Ben Fogle, Chairman of the Campaign for National Parks said: “National Parks are an extraordinary canvas for younger people to develop new skills and confidence and young people can do a tremendous amount for National Parks in return. Mosaic gives an exciting opportunity for younger people to get involved in these amazing places giving themselves and our National Parks a chance for a great future.”
Mosaic for young people offers 16-25 year olds opportunities to gain skills, experience, confidence and good health through using their National Parks.
