The Dig Porlock Roadshow!

Who were the first people to live in Porlock parish?
Where did they live?
How did they live and how did they form the present day Porlock?

Residents of Porlock Parish are being asked to get involved in ‘Dig Porlock’ – a community project which will investigate the origins of the Parish by archaeological fieldwork, excavation and research.

A Roadshow is being held in Porlock Village Hall on Thursday 24 January and everyone is invited. Faye Balmond, Moorland Heritage Officer with the Exmoor Moorland Landscape Partnership Scheme says: “We hope that local people will come along and find see how they can take part in unravelling the archaeology of the moorlands around Porlock.”

There will also be a chance to look at the aerial photographs and historic records on display and have a chat to archaeologists from Exmoor National Park.

The project is supported by Heritage Lottery funding through the Exmoor  Moorland Landscape Partnership Scheme.
