Sent on behalf of the Simonsbath Festival organisers:
Simonsbath Festival will bring ‘World Music’ and much more
to Exmoor this Spring
The Simonsbath Festival (May 7 to June 23) website has just gone live with information about the lively mix of concerts, events, walks and talks happening this Spring in Simonsbath, in the heart of Exmoor when it is at its most beautiful http://www.simonsbathfestival.co.uk
The festival has been formed to organise a multi-cultural and multi-faceted event featuring a variety of social, cultural and recreational events in the tiny, remote village of Simonsbath, in its magical moorland setting in the heart of Exmoor. It is the first time such a festival has been organised by an Exmoor community of this size.
The warm acoustics of St Luke’s Church, Simonsbath, will bring out the very best in music from the Russian Orthodox Choir, concert harpist Keziah Thomas, the Alan Lewis Dixieland jazz band, Baraka African music band and performers of Indian classical music Ricky Romain and Jon Sterckx. And locally-based touring repertory company Creative Cow will bring their new production of Peter Nichols’s “Born in the Gardens” to the festival.
Along with the music is a programme of walks around this part of Exmoor and a series of talks by well-known local people. And the Exmoor Forest Inn is joining in with a quiz night, a beer festival, wine tasting and even a murder mystery.
Simonsbath’s historic Victorian water-powered sawmill, owned by Exmoor National Park Authority, has several open days and will have an instrument maker in residence over one weekend.
The festival will open with traditional celebrations on May Day, with a maypole and all the trimmings, and close on Midsummer’s Day with more food, drink and dancing to live music.
The organisers hope that there will be something for everyone and that local residents will be joined by visitors from near and far to put Simonsbath on the cultural map of the South West.
The festival will run from May 7 to June 23 and full details are available on the website: http://www.simonsbathfestival.co.uk; a festival brochure will be available soon. To request the brochure or for any other enquiries please email email@example.com or phone 01643 831343.
The Simonsbath Festival is a non-profit making community venture supported financially by the Exmoor National Park Partnership Fund and the Heart of Exmoor.
At the heart of the festival is St Luke’s Church which has recently been renovated to create a welcoming and attractive performing space which is ideal for concerts and other events. With its excellent acoustics, St Luke’s has already become a popular venue for professional and amateur concerts.
