Discover Exmoor’s historic water-powered sawmill

A guided tour of the historic water-powered sawmill and estate workshops in a beautiful riverside setting at Simonsbath in the heart of the National Park. The land where it stands was bought from George III in 1818 by a wealthy Midlands ironmaster and the sawmill was the power-house for his plans to create a great country estate.

Meet in the public car park at Ashcombe, Simonsbath. Grid ref: SS774395. Bring: Walking footwear, waterproof or sunhat and suncreen. Accessibility: Level, easy 500m walk from car park to mill (mobility problems: call 01398 322211 to arrange to park at mill). Cost: £3; u16/students free – booking not required.
